Let’s be honest for a moment. Sometimes, in the quiet of a prayer or the chaos of the news cycle, a very human frustration bubbles up. It is the elephant in the room that we often feel too polite to mention: Lord, what is taking You so long?

It has been nearly 2,000 years since the first incarnation—since the manger, the miracles, and the ministry in Galilee. We read the Gospels, and we see the urgency of the early church, yet here we are, two millennia later, still waiting.

If I am exploring my honest reflections, there are moments where I want to look up and say, “Come on God, what are You doing? What are You messing around with?”

We see suffering, we see confusion, and we see a world that looks remarkably broken. It feels like He is dragging His heels. Why the delay? Why does the timeline seem to stretch on forever?

The Bible Predicted We Would Feel This Way

Interestingly, this sense of frustration—and the mockery from the world regarding the delay—isn’t a surprise to God. In fact, the New Testament explicitly tells us that people will misjudge the timeframe and scoff at the idea of His return because “nothing seems to change.”

The Apostle Peter addresses this directly in his second letter:

“First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, ‘Where is this “coming” he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.'” — 2 Peter 3:3-4 (NIV)

It’s almost comforting to know that the Bible alludes to the fact that people will misjudge the timing. The delay causes doubt. But Peter goes on to explain that God isn’t being slow as we understand slowness; He is being patient, not wanting anyone to perish.

The Days of Noah: A Window of Mercy

Jesus Himself told us that His return would be “as it was in the days of Noah” (Matthew 24:37). We often think of the flood itself, but think about the days leading up to it.

Noah preached righteousness for decades while building the Ark. People carried on eating, drinking, and marrying, completely oblivious to the timeline they were living in.

But here is a detail we often miss: The Bible records that the door to the Ark was open for seven days before the rain actually started.

“For after seven more days I will cause it to rain on the earth forty days and forty nights…” — Genesis 7:4

Presumably, anyone could have walked through that door during that week. The delay wasn’t inactivity; it was a final window of grace. The world scoffed right up until the moment God shut the door. It reminds us that what feels like God “messing around” is often God giving humanity one last chance to get on board.

The 2033 Perspective: Just Around the Corner?

This brings me to a thought that has been pressing on my mind recently. If we look at the timeline of history, we are approaching a significant milestone.

Scholars and historians generally agree that Jesus was crucified and resurrected around AD 30–33. If we do the maths, 2,000 years from the death and resurrection of Christ brings us to roughly 2033.

Why does that matter? Well, the Bible speaks in Hosea 6:2 about a revival after two days:

“After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence.”

If we apply the principle found in 2 Peter 3:8, that “with the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day,” then 2,000 years since Christ’s resurrection is exactly “two days” in God’s sight. We could arguably be on the precipice of that “third day.”

The year 2033 is just around the corner. It is a sobering thought. Are we the generation that sits at the 2,000-year mark??!!

Make Up Your Own Mind

I am not setting dates, but I am inviting you to be curious. I have been looking into some fascinating studies on this topic, and I’d love for you to explore them yourself.

There is a thought-provoking video called Messiah 2030 on YouTube that dives deep into the chronology and the biblical patterns of time. It’s well worth a watch.

Additionally, I highly recommend checking out the Ambassadors of Christ YouTube channel. Their Bible study on the 2030 principle is very thorough and offers a compelling look at where we might be on God’s prophetic clock.

Go and watch them. Test the spirits. Look at the Scriptures. And then ask yourself the question again: Lord, where are you? Perhaps He is closer than we dare to believe.
